Sam Adams

Sam’s early passions as a young teenager were ‘Old Skool’ Hip Hop and Funk but fell in love with Jazz and the Alto Saxophone as soon as he heard a Charlie Parker record. Before this, he was always into a vast range of music and taken to some fantastic shows from Ravi Shankar, Miles Davis to Sonny Rollins and Pat Matheny by an enthusiastic dad.

Sam’s performing career has been developing with some interesting twists and turns along the way. He started in West London in a band called The Guvnors (B.B. King mixed with The Blockheads, Parliament /Funkadelic) before embarking on a BA in Music (Jazz Studies) at Middlesex University, studying under and performing with members of the experimental jazz ensemble, ‘Loose Tubes’. He reports that they were ‘..a bunch of jazz loons..’

Sam has since been traveling the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland for over 10 years and is currently found gigging with The Dualers, Bad Manners and has toured for a number of years with award winning tribute acts (Talon – Best of the Eagles, And Finally…Phil Collins and ‘Amy’ A Tribute to Amy Winehouse). Sam has been involved with many other performing and recording projects including gigs and tours in vast array of UK’s venues and festivals. Sam has also just cut an EP with The Back Spasm Band. Very exciting times on the Horizon.

Other notable performances have been with U.K. Neo Soul legend Omar, 80’s pop sensation Yazz and also UK soul star, Natasha Watts. He has supported Level 42, UB40, Madness and Aswad playing some of the UK’s biggest music venues.

Sam’s musical icons are sax hero’s such as Dexter Gordon, Michael Brecker, David Sanborn, Charlie Parker, Clarence Clemons, Maceo Parker, Gerald Albright, Jr Walker, Kenny Garrett and sax players from Tower of Power, The JB’s to The Skatalites.
